A Word from your Pastor
Dear Parishioners:
May 3, 1984, was the date of my ordination as a deacon. I remember that experience, now 40 years ago, with vivid clarity. My joy was overflowing. A number of members of my family were able to attend the celebration, which took place in Rome at St. Peter’s Basilica, at the altar of the Chair of Peter right under the Holy Spirit window. As you can imagine, it was an awesome experience. The year after that, on June 22, 1985, I was ordained priest for the Diocese of Columbus at St. Joseph Cathedral in Columbus. Now, I have the joy of experiencing the ordination to the priesthood of my nephew, Deacon Tyler Carter, son of my sister Susan. That will take place on May 18 at St. Andrew Church in Columbus. Tyler and four of his classmates will be ordained to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ by Bishop Earl Fernandes.
Please pray for Vocations! Every family should have at least one priest, sister or brother in a religious community. It will be a real gift to the whole family, as well as to the Church and the People of God. Vocations come from families that put God first and live the Gospel for all to see.
This weekend, we welcome Bishop Earl Fernandes to St. Edward the Confessor for the celebration of Confirmation for our 8th Graders at the Saturday 5 p.m. Mass. Last weekend, we had the First Holy Communion for our 2nd Graders. The Sacraments are a real gift. Please keep our young people in your prayers, asking God to help them and their families to remain faithful to Jesus by attendance and participation in the life of the Church as they reach these milestones. We must all commit to the Vocation that God calls us to walk and to the responsibility that is ours to be a continuing witness of His Presence and action among us.
Jesus reminds us: "As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.” Let us be a community united in Love and witness to God’s action in the world. We share the joy of the Sacraments in many different ways. May our joy be full!
