A Word from your Pastor
Dear Parishioners:
The Second Sunday of Lent presents us with the Transfiguration, which is described in each of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Luke’s account always highlights the prayer of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. He tells us that Jesus’ face changed in appearance and that Moses and Luke conversed with Jesus about His exodus. He identifies this journey clearly with what was going to take place in Jerusalem – the Passion, Death and Resurrection.
The response of the disciples to this mystical encounter is reminiscent of prayer: they are overcome with sleep, then see Jesus’ glory; they become afraid, and a cloud covers them until they see Jesus in His divine glory – glory shining through human nature.
The Sundays of Lent emphasize in a particular way the jouney of those who are entering into the Catholic Church at Easter. This Second Sunday offers a prayer for those baptized in other Christian denominations who seek full incorporation into the Catholic Church. The third, fourth and fifth Sundays have the Scrutinies for the catechumens, those who are not baptized, as they prepare for the initiation into the Sacramental life through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. As these new members enter our community, we are all called to respond to God’s grace and to grow in our capacity to live the Catholic Faith in its fullness.
Lent is the time to decide that you want to be all that God calls you to be and that you are willing to pay the price. Let us go up the mountain with Jesus and see a glimpse of His glory. Let us accept the invitation to follow Him on the way fo the Cross and be willing to persevere with the grace He offers.
Thanks to all who have welcomed me back from my vacation. Let us journey together in Hope, as we await the glory of Easter.
