Dear Parishioners:
Many thanks to all who worked to prepare for our beautiful celebration of Easter. The spirit of Welcome that we want to develop among us shines out when we are joined by so many who are not with us throughout the year. Now that we have entered into the Easter Season, we want to concentrate even more on this. How we welcome others is the sign of our health as a community of disciples who are gathered together by the Risen Lord.
This weekend, we bless those who serve among the sick as ministers of healing and support. We also experience the communal celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This is one of the seven Sacraments of the Church. It has a special connection to the public witness of our Catholic Faith. It is somewhat ironic that the two Sacraments of Healing – Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation (Confession) – are the Sacraments that are most recognizable as Catholic. They are often portrayed in movies and in comments to represent the Church.
